Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, Reagan Administration

This photograph of the East Garden, better known as the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, was taken in August 1987 by Joseph H. Bailey during the administration of Ronald Reagan. First Lady Ellen Axson Roosevelt originally created a colonial style garden on the east side of the White House in 1903. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy collaborated with Rachel Lambert Mellon on redesigning the garden. The garden was dedicated to Jacqueline Kennedy in 1965 by First Lady Lady Bird Johnson.
